A1 is a leading telecommunications provider in several European regions, known for its innovative digital services and community-driven initiatives. Through projects like Lahkonočnice, it actively supports social responsibility and cultural enrichment.

The challenge

Lahkonočnice exists to connect generations through bedtime stories—bringing children, parents, and elders closer through locally authored, socially conscious fairy tales. Our challenge was to modernize the existing website to match its growing impact and prepare it for future growth.

The plan

We set out to redevelop the Lahkonočnice website into a modern, accessible, and scalable platform—one capable of growing alongside its audience and cultural role. Collaborating closely with the external designer, we aimed to streamline implementation, ensuring the result was faithful to the creative vision while remaining efficient to build and maintain.

Results and impact

Lahkonočnice has become a cherished cross-platform experience. The revamped website offers a stable, accessible base, while the mobile app extended its reach and deepened engagement—now with 25,000+ installs. A 2024 survey by A1 Slovenija found that 94% of users would recommend Lahkonočnice, reflecting strong satisfaction. Parents use both platforms for bedtime routines, learning, entertainment, and navigating tough conversations—proving that meaningful stories can forge real connection.

Onboarding

2 weeks

This initial stage marked the beginning of a truly collaborative journey. We met the key individuals behind Lahkonočnice—both from the client side and the external design partner—and established a clear system of communication and cooperation to guide the project forward.

We also took time to understand the platform’s purpose: its social mission, its role in connecting generations, and its potential as a digital storytelling tool. Early technical discussions focused on defining the most effective setup to support accessibility, long-term stability, and future adaptability.

Roles and responsibilities were clarified, and the collaboration was formalized through a clear agreement—laying a strong foundation for the work ahead.

Design Collaboration

2 months

Collaboration between Miha Brodarič from Multipraktik (Design), the client, and CNJ was key to shaping a solution that was both creatively rich and technically sound. While Miha led the visual direction, we offered proactive input to align the creative vision with development realities—always with an eye on long-term maintainability and budget efficiency.

Our focus was on helping optimize components and interactions in ways that reduced implementation complexity while preserving the expressiveness of the platform. This early and ongoing exchange enabled a more streamlined build process and made sure that every design decision served both the user experience and the practical scope of the project.

Website Development

3 months

With the design in place, we set out to rebuild the Lahkonočnice website from the ground up. As a socially responsible project aimed at strengthening family bonds and promoting local storytelling, it needed a platform that could grow with its mission—without becoming resource-heavy or complex to maintain.

We took a mobile-first approach, knowing most users accessed the site via smartphones. Prioritizing smaller screens helped us streamline interactions and focus the experience where it mattered most.

Using React, we built a modular, component-based architecture designed for speed, stability, and ease of future updates. Internal QA was integrated throughout development, allowing us to refine quickly and confidently. Throughout the process, we remained in close contact with the client and designer, ensuring that every implementation decision supported both the user experience and the project’s long-term sustainability.

Cross-Platform Evolution

Ongoing

As Lahkonočnice continued to grow, so did the need for a more immersive and accessible format. A dedicated mobile app became the natural next step—bringing the platform closer to families and making it easier to use in everyday routines.

Thanks to the modular technical setup established during the website rebuild, we were able to reuse much of the existing structure. This made the transition efficient and helped us expand without adding unnecessary complexity.

The app also introduced new features. With user accounts, people could mark favorite stories or authors, revisit listening history, and personalize their experience. These small touches added a sense of ownership and warmth to the platform.

We also focused on inclusivity—adding accessibility features to ensure Lahkonočnice could be enjoyed by the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or context.

Since its launch, the mobile app has helped Lahkonočnice grow in popularity and deepen its impact. It has become a trusted companion to parents across Slovenia, supported by strong survey feedback and a growing list of awards and recognitions.
